What this construction is

A paper facestock is the default for the great majority of label work. It takes ink readily, die-cuts predictably and keeps the cost of the finished label down. What varies between paper grades is the surface: a cast-coated sheet gives a smooth, high-gloss print face, a woodfree sheet gives a more absorbent matte face, and a thermal topcoat gives a heat-sensitive imaging layer instead of a printable one.

Underneath it sits freezer-grade adhesive. The liner is a glassine — a supercalendered paper with a dense, closed surface. Glassine releases cleanly at high converting speeds, it is the cheapest liner that does the job, and it is the default for roll-fed work.

This construction sits in the Flexo family, which we build for flexographic presses, in roll form. The family grouping is not marketing shorthand — it is how the topcoat is chosen.

Where it earns its place

Chilled and deep-freeze packing lines

Applied before the product goes down to temperature, the adhesive has to stay put while the pack contracts and while condensation forms on the surface. This is the construction we supply for that first cold contact.

Frozen ready meals, ice cream and seafood cartons

Cartons that go from a cold store into a display freezer and back again see repeated temperature swings. The freezer-grade system is chosen for that cycle rather than for ambient shelf work.

Cold-chain logistics labelling

Shipping and traceability labels applied at the cold store exit, onto surfaces that are already below ambient and often damp. Standard permanent adhesive is the wrong tool here.

When to choose something else

Ambient, long-life work

The freezer-grade system is specified for cold application and cold service. Using it on ordinary ambient labelling adds cost for no benefit.

Repeated re-seating

This is a permanent cold-chain adhesive, not a repositionable one. If the label has to move, look at the removable range instead.

Wet or chilled environments

Paper facestock is not waterproof. Where the label meets water, condensation or a wash-down, a film facestock — or a laminate over the print — is the correct answer.

How FL0105W21 sits inside the Self Adhesive Paper series

The Self Adhesive Paper series holds 8 constructions in our catalogue. They share the same facestock family, so the differences that matter are adhesive system and liner — and those two decide which jobs each code wins.

Buyers often ask the reverse question: the construction works, but the press changes. These are the codes in other families built on the same facestock type.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

Answered from the construction data, not from a brochure.

What exactly is FL0105W21?
FL0105W21 is a paper facestock — 70gsm semi-glossy cast coated paper — coated with freezer-grade adhesive and supplied on 54gsm glassine liner. It belongs to the Flexo family, which we build for flexographic presses, in roll form.
Which printing process should I run it on?
The Flexo family is specified for flexographic presses, in roll form. If your press is not on that list, send us the model and we will tell you honestly whether this construction is the right one or whether another family fits better.
Can it be applied to an already-frozen surface?
Yes — that is the point of a freezer-grade system. Confirm the surface temperature range with us when you order, because application temperature drives which of the freezer constructions we recommend.
What is the minimum order and the lead time?
One thousand square metres is the standard minimum for a stock construction, in jumbo roll, slit roll or sheet form depending on the family. Stock items normally ship 15 to 25 days after order confirmation. A4 samples are free — you cover the courier only.
Can I get the technical data sheet before I commit?
Yes. The TDS for FL0105W21 lists the measured values for the actual production lot, and we send it with the samples. We deliberately do not print performance figures on the website: the number that matters is the one measured on the material you will receive, not a catalogue average.
