What this construction is

A paper facestock is the default for the great majority of label work. It takes ink readily, die-cuts predictably and keeps the cost of the finished label down. What varies between paper grades is the surface: a cast-coated sheet gives a smooth, high-gloss print face, a woodfree sheet gives a more absorbent matte face, and a thermal topcoat gives a heat-sensitive imaging layer instead of a printable one.

Underneath it sits water-based acrylic adhesive. The liner is a glassine — a supercalendered paper with a dense, closed surface. Glassine releases cleanly at high converting speeds, it is the cheapest liner that does the job, and it is the default for roll-fed work.

This construction sits in the Flexo family, which we build for flexographic presses, in roll form. The family grouping is not marketing shorthand — it is how the topcoat is chosen.

Where it earns its place

General-purpose paper and film labels

A water-based acrylic system is the default when the job does not call for anything exotic: it prints well, converts cleanly and keeps the odour profile low compared with solvent systems.

Work with a lower-odour requirement

Where the printed label sits close to the consumer, or the converter runs a tight plant with limited extraction, a water-based adhesive is usually the easier conversation with the customer.

Mixed paper and film programmes

One adhesive system across a paper and a film facestock keeps a multi-SKU programme simple to specify, stock and convert.

When to choose something else

Immersion and wash-off

Prolonged water contact sits outside the design envelope of a standard water-based acrylic.

Very oily substrates

Oil on the surface prevents the adhesive from wetting out; test before running production.

Wet or chilled environments

Paper facestock is not waterproof. Where the label meets water, condensation or a wash-down, a film facestock — or a laminate over the print — is the correct answer.

How FL0102W21 sits inside the Self Adhesive Paper series

The Self Adhesive Paper series holds 8 constructions in our catalogue. They share the same facestock family, so the differences that matter are adhesive system and liner — and those two decide which jobs each code wins.

The same facestock on another press

Buyers often ask the reverse question: the construction works, but the press changes. These are the codes in other families built on the same facestock type.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

Answered from the construction data, not from a brochure.

What exactly is FL0102W21?
FL0102W21 is a paper facestock — 100gsm woodfree paper — coated with water-based acrylic adhesive and supplied on 54gsm white glassine liner. It belongs to the Flexo family, which we build for flexographic presses, in roll form.
Which printing process should I run it on?
The Flexo family is specified for flexographic presses, in roll form. If your press is not on that list, send us the model and we will tell you honestly whether this construction is the right one or whether another family fits better.
What is the minimum order and the lead time?
One thousand square metres is the standard minimum for a stock construction, in jumbo roll, slit roll or sheet form depending on the family. Stock items normally ship 15 to 25 days after order confirmation. A4 samples are free — you cover the courier only.
Can I get the technical data sheet before I commit?
Yes. The TDS for FL0102W21 lists the measured values for the actual production lot, and we send it with the samples. We deliberately do not print performance figures on the website: the number that matters is the one measured on the material you will receive, not a catalogue average.
